About the project
Objective
Transform a static, outdated site into a flexible platform that supports content, events, and multiple audiences
Bristol Cathedral’s existing website was over a decade old, built without a CMS and difficult to manage internally. The objective was to create a modern, accessible platform that could support frequent content updates, particularly around events, while serving a broad audience including visitors, worshippers, and the local community.
Solution
A flexible WordPress platform built around events, content structure, and usability
I developed a fully custom WordPress site with a modular block system, enabling the team to manage content independently and scale the site over time.
Key features included:
A dynamic events system, allowing users to browse, filter, and access a wide range of events across different categories and dates
A structured CMS using custom Gutenberg blocks, giving editors full control over page layouts without breaking consistency
A streamlined booking journey, reducing friction from discovery to action
A clear separation of visitor, worship, and music-related content, improving navigation across distinct user groups
Accessibility-focused development, ensuring the site meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards
The result is a scalable, content-driven platform that supports day-to-day operations while improving how visitors discover events, plan visits, and engage with the Cathedral.

Client Review
We have a new events functionality, so for the first time, people can view and filter through our range of services and events. Donating and learning about how to support and get involved with the Cathedral has become easier too. We are really pleased with what's been achieved and can confidentially maintain and update the website for the future.
